Rake for bushes: how to choose?

• the width of a rake’s working crossbar varies from 10 to 70 cm (for standard work the optimal size is 30-50 cm, for cleaning hard-to-reach corners between bushes – 10-20 cm, for cleaning the lawn – 50-70 cm);
• working crossbar should be made of steel with a corrosion-resistant coating (for earthworks) or lightweight plastic (to work with dry grass and small debris), but the copies of painted iron, though cheap, but quickly wear out;
• the stem can be chosen from wood (the heaviest), plastic, or aluminum, but it is worth looking at the versions with non-slip rubber inserts on the handle;
• different types of rakes may be needed on the same site, so if you don’t want to buy several at once, buy a set where one handle comes with different attachments;
• D-handle, an indirect ergonomic shaft, an additional crossbar, and rubber inserts on the shaft are not compulsory but make the tool much easier to use.

How to properly prepare trees and shrubs for winter?

Under the bark of untreated plantings, bacteria always multiply. This leads to a slowing of the vegetative process. Because of this, plants recover from winter too slowly. That is why the treatment of fruit trees in autumn against pests and diseases is an important procedure that should be carried out every year.

The first thing to treat is trees older than 6 years old. To do this, the gardener removes the old bark with a stiff brush. After removing the bark, trees are treated with special products. For fruit crops, iron or copper sulfate, as well as urea will be needed.

Different products affect a particular type of threat, so you should not spray the plant with a single solution. The preparation should be chosen according to the expected results.

Most often, insects lay their larvae on the lower part of the leaves. That is why you should not bury leaves in the ground. Leaving it under the tree is also impractical, otherwise, you can attract, in this way, mice for wintering.

To get rid of parasites and caterpillars, you should dig the rootstocks to a depth of 15 cm. The work is carried out carefully, using a rake, otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the roots of plantings. Fallen leaves together with weeds and cut branches are collected with a rake and burned outside the plot.
