How to install Flagstone Driveway

In order to tile the access roads to the house, you should start with the markings. In most cases, such roads are more than 9 feet wide. This is the optimal width so that the car, moving on the road, did not accidentally hit the lawn or flower bed. As a rule, the access roads are straight, and they lead from the gate to the main entrance of the country house. If due to the specifics of the site, it is not possible to organize a perfectly direct road, then you should be especially careful in calculating the traffic on it – in each direction it should be as convenient and safe as possible. After the markup is done, a trench is dug on its points, its depth should be about 16 inches. Then, the ground on the site is carefully trampled. After that, along the walls of the trench set the curb blocks, or you can install the formwork on these parts. Some owners of country sites prefer to fill the trenches with kerbs of concrete – such structures above the ground will rise by several centimeters. The main function of such kerbs is to preserve the original shape of the driveway, prevent soil slippage and deformation of the canvas. The gutter formed in the trench is filled with gravel, a layer of about 12 inches, then all together flooded with water and again carefully trampled. After that, in fact, the stage of tile laying begins. The material is taken in small size plates. Then the plates are installed on a layer of 2 to 3 inches, in addition, you should leave a small gap between the plates.

It should be borne in mind that the flagstone should rise above the ground level by a few centimeters along the entire plane of the road. The material should be laid out at a small side and longitudinal slope, which is literally a few degrees. This is necessary so that the water can drain off the surface of the access road. To do this, along the entire length of the edge of the road, as a rule, digging gutters to drain the rainwater. A day after the completion of work on the paving of the road, you can begin to fill the gaps formed between the slabs.
